Our most sustainable phone cases yet…

We recently released our most recycled phone cases yet. With 92% recycled polyester in the lining, and 30% recycled polycarbonate in the shell.

WHY IS IT NOT 100% RECYCLED?

Excellent question. The simple answer is: phone cases need to be strong; they need to protect your phone (or else, what’s the point?). And so far, we’ve not found a recycled material that can do that job to our satisfaction. So, while we work towards developing a solution to that, we have introduced as much recycled content as we can, without sacrificing the performance of our cases.

Our top priority is, and always has been, to make products that do their job well, for as long as possible. Keeping them in use is the best way to keep them out of landfill.

HOW IS IT DIFFERENT TO YOUR BAG, MADE FROM 100% RECYCLED FABRICS?

The performance characteristics of a bag and a protective phone case are different. When you’re working with moulded products, the material makeup of them is critical. The machines are highly sensitive to any variations in the material composition and the most minor of changes puts the performance and durability at risk. So, when we transitioned our bag fabrics across to recycled sources, we had a solution that replicated the durability of our existing fabrics and were confident we could transition them swiftly into the range without any change to the durability or performance of those styles.

Considering the complexity of the moulded polymer and the task it must do (protect your phone), we have to move a little slower. But, movement is still movement. And we are proud of the progress we’re able to make in the right direction.

WHAT’S NEXT?

We are working on increasing the recycled content in our phone cases, working with leading suppliers in the space to develop these solutions. We’re thrilled to have you along on this journey and we’ll keep you updated on our progress!
